Directed by SJ Suryah, 'Vaalee' starring Ajith and Simran in the lead roles was released in 1999. The film was a huge success for all three and the film is still one of the classics that is kept close to the heart by many movie fans. Ajith's bold move to play a negative role

It is not new for actors to play negative roles even in their first film today, but back in 90s and 2000s, it was a huge risk for a hero to play as a villain. Ajith has taken a bold step then to play a negative role in the movie. With him as both protagonist and antagonist, the actor was able to create a strong base for his acting style which made him adaptable for many role he played in the future films.

Jyothika's debut

The film had marked Jyothika's debut into the Tamil film industry. Though she appeared only for one song sequence, her character as Sona was registered well in the minds of people. Jyothika after this teamed up alongside Vijay to play the female lead in Kushi which was directed by SJ Suryah.

SJ Suryah's directorial debut

'Vaalee' marked the directorial debut of SJ Suryah. Until then, SJ Suryah was an assitant director and the movie gave a big breaking for him as a director. Reportedly, Ajith had approached SJ Suryah asking to make a good script and also promised him that he will be giving him a chance to mahke his directorial debut.
