5 upcoming Hindi remakes of Tamil films

Kollywood films being remade into Hindi and vice-versa is nothing new. Going by speculations, there are many Tamil movies which are likely to be remade into Hindi, though an official confirmation is awaited for a few of them. The latest we hear is that Vijay-starrer Master will also have a Bollywood version, if everything goes well. Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru

The riveting crime thriller directed by young filmmaker, debutant Karthick Naren with Rahman playing the lead role, was a sleeper hit when released towards the end of 2016. With gripping screenplay, loads of suspense and convincing performances from its lead characters, the movie had won praises from critics and audiences alike. It was recently announced that Varun Dhawan will be seen in the lead role in the film’s Bollywood version. Sajid Nadiadwala is said to producing the untitled project in which Parineeta Chopra is likely to play the female lead.

Maanagaram

This debut film of Lokesh Kanagaraj, starring Sundeep Kishan, Regina Cassandra and Sri among others, went on to become one of the most appreciated Tamil movies of 2017. The movie’s Hindi version, titled Mumbaikar, was wrapped up recently. Directed by ace lensman-turned-filmmaker Santosh Sivan, the movie also marks the acting debut of Vijay Sethupathi in Bollywood. Vikrant Massey will essay the role Sundeep enacted in Tamil version while Sanjay Mishra and Ranvir Shorey among others will be seen in pivotal roles.

Vikram Vedha

The intriguing action film, directed by Pushkar Gayatri, was in the news for a long time with regard to its Hindi remake. The names of many B’town stars surfaced whenever the news of its remake popped up. The latest is that Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan might essay the roles pulled off effortlessly by Vijay Sethupathi and Madhavan respectively in the Kollywood version. Sraddha Srinath, Varalaxmi and Kathir were other artistes who put up brilliant performances in Vikram Vedha which got applause for its screenplay and music as well.

Aruvi

The success of this small film was celebrated by many Kollywood celebrities apart from regular movie-goers and critics. Directed by Arun Prabu Purushothaman, Aditi Balan, who played the protagonist in the movie, received huge appreciation from several quarters for portraying complex emotions. The makers had approached several leading heroines to play the lead role, but all of them had rejected the offer. The genre, treatment and characterisations in the film offered a different experience to the audience. Fatima Sana Shaikh, we hear, will play the protagonist in the Bollywood version, which is expected to go on floors in a couple of months’ time.

Kaithi

Lokesh Kanagaraj’s second film, an unabashed action film, which starred Karthi in the lead, opened to a rousing reception from movie buffs, thanks to its fast-paced screenplay and loads of action scenes. The film, which had no songs and a female lead, offered a unique experience for cinephiles. Sam CS’ background score and cinematography were other highlights of the movie which turned out to be a compelling watch when it released on the day of Deepavali in 2019. The news is that Ajay Devgn will play the lead in its Hindi version.
