The magnum opus of Mani Ratnam, 'Ponniyin Selvan 2' was released in theatres yesterday, April 28. The sequel of the film had much more expectations that part 1 and it did not fail in the audience eye. The film has been critically acclaimed and is becoming to be one of the blockbusters for the year. Reportedly, the film is said to make a gross of Rs 30 crore on day 1 of its release and the movie is expected to make a gross of Rs 1000 crore at the box office during its run in theatres.

Ponniyin Selvan being a historic drama proved to be more than just a sequel as it has paved way to a new era in Tamil cinema. The sequel of the movie having the right amount of visuals, songs, background, art direction and sets extruding royalty and grace at the same time acted as an added advantage. Though the film's story was widely known having it on screen by adding a face to it lead to its success.

While 'Ponniyin Selvan 1' had an introduction to the characters, the part two of the film had each and every character dive a bit deeper to their role focussing on their aim. For example, Vanthiyathevan's character which was playful and had flirting scenes with Kundavai and Nandhini in the prequel, but in the part 2 when they meet, Vanthiyathevan put on his dignified sport based on what the character was required to do.
