A selection committee's decision doesn't determine a film's quality: Vetrimaaran on Jai Bhim's exclusion at the National Film Awards
The winners of the 69th National Film Awards were announced a few days ago, and there were fewer awards for Tamil movies this time. Even though several expected films missed out on bagging an award, no awards for the classic 'Jai Bhim', which was selected for the Oscars, disappointed the Kollywood fans more. Now, director Vetrimaaran has opened up about the exclusion of 'Jai Bhim' at the National Film Awards. Vetrimaaran has said that the selection of committee members doesn't determine a film's quality or social contribution. But Vetrimaaran also accepts the selection of the National Film Awards since we have submitted our films and accepted the committee members.
In 'Jai Bhim, the film has made a strong impact among certain community members, but a national award for the film could have added extra credit to the team, Vetrimaaran said in his latest media interaction.
It is worth mentioning that Vetrimaaran has won the National Film Awards five times. When Vetrimaaran missed bagging a National Award for 'Vada Chennai', several fans voiced out in support of the director on social media, but the director moved away silently, accepting the committee members' decision.
Earlier, Prakash Raj, Nani, PC Sreeram, and a few other cinema stars raised questions over 'Jai Bhim's exclusion at the 69th National Film Awards. As Suriya, Lijimol Jose, and Manikandan delivered extraordinary performances in 'Jai Bhim', at least one among the three was expected to win a National Award, but all missed out, and fans were disappointed over the film's exit.
Directed by debutant TJ Gnanavel, 'Jai Bhim' is a court drama inspired by the real-life story of Justice Chandru, while Suriya reprises his role as a lawyer.
