One of the celebrated choreographers of Indian cinema,
Saroj Khan passed away this morning due to a sudden cardiac arrest. Known as The Mother of Dance/Choreography in India, Saroj Master has choreographed over 2000 songs in her illustrious career. Apart from winning the National Award thrice – for Dola Re Dola (Devdas), all the songs in the Tamil film Sringaram and Yeh Ishq Haaye (Jab We Met) – she has brought home several awards.

Sridevi is one. Her husband Boney Kapoor, who is also a well-known producer, has taken to his Twitter account to write, “#SarojKhan – an inspiration for all Actors and choreographers .She would put great emphasis on expressions than just movements. Cherish the work we did together for the songs of my films. Condolences to the Family. #RIPSarojKhan #TrueLegend #Guru (sic).”

- also shared a photo of Saroj Master, Sridevi and Anil Kapoor from the shooting spot.
Saroj Master has choreographed some of Sridevi’s iconic songs, including the chartbuster Na Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Ha from ChaalBaaz (starring Rajinikanth and Sunny Deol, too), for which she won a Filmfare Award. Among the other films that Sridevi and Saroj Master worked together include Mr India and Chandni. Interestingly, she has also worked in a handful of Tamil films, including the National Award-winning Sringaram, Thai Veedu and Iruvar.
