Dhanush's rumored appearance in Silambarasan TR's 'Arasan' has been officially put to rest. Producer Kalaipuli S. Thanu confirmed that although the film is part of the 'Vada Chennai' universe, it unfolds in a distinct parallel timeline. The audience can anticipate Vijay Sethupathi portraying the villain, with production making steady headway featuring Simbu.
One of the much-anticipated Tamil films, ‘Arasan’ starring Silambarasan TR, directed by Vetri Maaran, which is currently in the shooting phase. The film also features Vijay Sethupathi, who is set to play the main antagonist in the film. Recently, there have been rumors that Dhanush will be seen making a special appearance in the film. The makers have now shared some light on it.

Connection with the ‘Vada Chennai’ universe

For the unversed, there were reports that Dhanush is making a cameo in the film ‘Arasan’ as it is said to be set in the same universe as ‘Vada Chennai’. This made fans speculate that Dhanush might reprise his iconic role in a special appearance.

Makers on Dhanush being a part of the film

As per a report by 123Telugu, the makers of ‘Arasan’ have officially denied the rumours. Producer Kalaipuli S. Thanu clarified that Dhanush is not a part of the film in any capacity. He explained that even though Arasan belongs to the ‘Vada Chennai’ universe, the story takes place in a different timeline. “Arasan’s story takes place in a parallel timeline, while Dhanush’s character is in jail in Vada Chennai. Vijay Sethupathi has joined the shoot. There are absolutely no issues with Simbu. He is coming on time to the sets and cooperating well," he said.The film also features Andrea Jeremiah, Samuthirakani and Kishore in key roles.

About Dhanush’s recent outing

On the work front, Dhanush was last seen in, ‘Tere Ishq Mein’, co-starring with Kriti Sanon, directed by Aanand L. Rai. It marks the second collaboration between the two after their cult classic ‘Raanjhanaa’. The movie was released on November 28th and the film is set to release on Netflix.Meanwhile, Vijay Sethupathi was last seen in the family drama ‘Thalaivan Thalaivii’, alongside Nithya Menen, which hit theaters in July 2025. He will also be seen in the silent film, ‘Gandhi Talks’, which also stars Aditi Rao Hydari.
