Bharath recalls how Balaji Sakthivel almost didn't cast him in 'Kaadhal': 'I am a proper, urban-looking personality'
Actor Bharath shared his initial career challenges for the film 'Kaadhal'. Director Balaji Sakthivel doubted his urban look for a small-town mechanic role. Bharath's dedication and producer S. Shankar's support secured the part. Now, Bharath is preparing for the release of his upcoming film 'Kaalidas 2', which could be a significant career milestone.
Actor Bharath recently opened up about his early career struggles while promoting his upcoming film 'Kaalidas 2.' In an interview, he shared how director Balaji Sakthivel was unsure about casting him in 'Kaadhal.' The director wasn't sure if Bharath was the right fit for the part of a small-town mechanic. He seemed more like a city guy, after all. This hesitation became a major hurdle before the film went on floors.

Balaji Sakthivel hesitated due to Bharath’s urban look and appearance

Speaking with Galatta, Bharath explained that the director was concerned about his look and how it would match the rooted character. He said, “He explained my character, but till the shoot started, he was hesitant about me because of my colour. I am a proper, urban-looking personality.” The director reportedly struggled to imagine him as a Madurai-based mechanic with a local accent. Bharath added that the team wanted complete realism, which caused doubt about his casting in the initial stages.

Bharath’s hard work and Shankar’s support won him the role

Considering the reluctance, Bharath put in his best efforts to showcase his abilities. “I had greased my face for the audition all by myself,” he revealed. He also said, “I knew what the lifestyle of the lower middle class was like,” as he had observed people closely during his time in Choolaimedu. His preparation impressed producer S.
Shankar, who backed him strongly. Bharath also recalled, “The screen test happened in Shankar sir’s office, and I later bought a house on the same street,” calling it a proud and emotional milestone.
