', a feature film on the life of the former chief minister and AIADMK founder, began on Friday in the presence of chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami. A

, who directed the biopic 'Kamaraj' (2004) has been signed on to direct the film which is slated for release in April 2018.
The film, Balakrishnan said, will trace the life of M G Ramachandran right from his childhood when he enrolled as an actor in theMadurai OriginalBoysCompany. "The film will cover events related to his days as a member of the Congress party, his meeting with mentor C N

and events thatled tohis quitting the DMK." 'MGR' will also feature the controversial shooting incident involving co-star MRRadha. Balakrishnan said the film wouldbe an honestdepiction of the actor-turned-politician. "When I was making 'Kamaraj', I received threats for including the emergency days(1975-77) in the film.
They offered me money to remove those portions.ButI refused," hesaid. SatishKumar, who is playing the role of MGR,is undergoing training in silambattam and other martial arts. Balakrishnan said Satish Kumar, who is debuting as a lead actor, is apt for the role due to his resemblance to the late politician.
Film director S S Stanely, who played the role of Annaduraiin 'Kamaraj', will again be featured as the DMK founder in 'MGR'. Stanely recalled that an 80-year-old man from Kanchipuram (Annadurai's hometown), who had grown up watching 'Anna', had helped him prepare for the role during the making of 'Kamaraj'.
A trailer of the film will be released on the occasion of MGR's birthday on January 17, said a release from the production company Ramana Communications which also produced 'Kamara.
