For producer Arun Rangarajulu , Carmeni Selvam is a story rooted in everyday realities. The film, set to release on April 3, taps into themes that are instantly relatable. “When I heard about the story, it connects to most of the middle class families and working class families,” he says, adding that its focus on “money and family values” is what drew him in. The film features Samuthirakani in the lead, alongside Gautham Vasudev Menon , with Lakshmi Priyaa Chandramouli as the female lead.
The narrative follows the journey of an innocent driver navigating financial pressures and personal distance, before eventually rediscovering what truly matters. For Arun, the intent was always clear, to reach audiences who would see themselves in it. “This story should reach most of the working class people particularly who are abroad and their family is in India,” he shares.
Arun’s own journey into cinema has been gradual. After graduation, he worked in a company before moving into business, eventually producing a crowdfunded Tamil film in 2011. He later ventured into ad films, corporate films and digital marketing before collaborating with director Ram Chakri . “We actually had a couple of scripts and we selected this script. That’s how it all evolved,” he recalls.
Aiming to reach audiences abroad
While the film stayed largely true to its original vision, the process wasn’t without its challenges. “Making the movie is not difficult but getting it released and marketing it is a very tough challenge along with reaching the right audience,” he notes. At its core, however, Carmeni Selvam carries a simple message — one that Arun hopes lingers with audiences.

“People who are watching this definitely will realize how they miss their family and that money will not give everything,” he says.
On the other hand, Samuthirakani was last seen in Dulquer Salmaan's 'Kaantha'.
