He took to his social media handle to share a post requesting Vijay Sethupathi to drop the film. He posted, ‘@VijaySethuOffl உலகம் முழுவதுமிருந்துதமிழர்களின் வேண்டுகோள் 800 வேண்டாம் என.. உங்களை வாழவைத்த மக்களைவிட, உணர்வை விட, தமிழ் ஈழ மக்களின் உயிர்போன கொடும் நிகழ்வை விட இந்தப்படம் பெரிதல்ல சகோதரா.. விட்டுவிடுங்கள். உங்களின் நடிப்புத்தீனிக்கு ஆயிரம் கதாபாத்திரங்கள் காத்திருக்கிறது. (sic)’
The tweet translates to ‘Tamilians all over the world are against you doing the movie 800. This film is not bigger than Tamil people who give you a livelihood, their feelings, and genocide of Sri Lankan Tamils brother. Drop the film. There are thousands of other characters waiting for you.’
The makers of the film recently released a statement clarifying that the film is only about the life of a
cricketer
and it does not make any political statement supporting anybody. The film is directed by
MS Sripathy.
