It might be late but the team of Rajinikanth's Lingaa is likely to heave a sigh of relief now. The film had been drawn to the court by one Ravi Rathinam, who had claimed that the story of the film has been lifted from his script, titled Mullaivanam. The case had come to the court in November 2014, ahead of the film's release on December 12, 2014.

Lingaa's producer Rockline Venkatesh had filed a case in the Madras High Court requesting this case, filed in a Madurai court, be dismissed. "Meanwhile, the Madurai court had ordered us to make Rs 10 crore as a cautionary deposit and go ahead with our release. Now, the court has come out with an order in favour of us after examining the case. Such issues usually crop up before the release of every film of Rajini sir. But as in the song in our film, which goes, 'Unmai oru naal vellum', this verdict has come as a matter of joy for us," said he producer in a press release.
