Did Ilaiyaraaja take help from Lydian Nadhaswaram for the symphony? The legendary composer clarifies

Isaignani Ilaiyaraaja recently unveiled his grand symphony at a prestigious venue in London, marking a significant milestone in his illustrious career. Upon returning to India, Ilaiyaraaja emphasized that his symphony should not be downloaded or accessed online. Instead, he expressed his desire to personally perform the symphony at various locations, ensuring audiences experience it live. The symphony, composed in four parts of 15 minutes each, was performed with international musicians, adding a global touch to the composition. Before embarking on this creative journey, Ilaiyaraaja confidently remarked, “Just as there is Incredible India, I am the Incredible Ilaiyaraaja.”

Amid the widespread acclaim, rumors began circulating on social media suggesting that young composer Lydian Nadhaswaram had assisted Ilaiyaraaja in crafting the symphony. Addressing these speculations at the latest press meet, Ilaiyaraaja clarified that while Lydian is his student, he had no role in the symphony's composition. Recalling an incident, Ilaiyaraaja mentioned that Lydian once presented a musical piece, claiming it was a symphony. However, Ilaiyaraaja immediately corrected him, explaining that it resembles more of a cinema background score and offered guidance accordingly. He firmly asserted that the symphony was his own independent creation.

Highlighting his journey, Ilaiyaraaja remarked, “I have walked my own path in the music industry for decades, never relying on anyone's help. When I say ‘my own feet,’ I mean I grew from nothing, standing barefoot.” His symphony performance, conducted by Michael, featured around 77 musicians who seamlessly delivered the composition across four movements, captivating audiences for nearly an hour. This monumental presentation further established Ilaiyaraaja’s status as a musical legend.

The symphony has garnered praise from several prominent personalities, including superstar Rajinikanth, Sivakarthikeyan, and notable political figures. Reports suggest that Ilaiyaraaja is planning to conduct concerts in Tamil Nadu, allowing local audiences to witness the symphony firsthand. Additionally, international tours are also on the horizon. Despite receiving some criticism online, where a few have misinterpreted his statements, Ilaiyaraaja remains steadfast, focusing on his music and continuing to inspire generations.
