The much-awaited upcoming Tamil movie 'Draupathi 2' is already in controversy before its release due to the song sung by famous playback singer Chinmayi. A newly released song from the movie led to a lot of debate on social media, where many internet users questioned Chinmayi’s collaboration with director Mohan G, who has always been embroiled in controversial debates on ideological and political grounds. What started as an appreciation for the singer spiraled into criticism, with the song becoming the center of social media trolling.
Makers decide to remove 'Emkoney' amid mounting backlash
Amid the growing pressure, a report from News 18 stated that the makers of 'Draupathi 2' decided to delete the song 'Emkoney' from the movie. Composed by Ghibran, the song had garnered a positive reception from the audience, but the ongoing controversy over the song outshined the music. The change was made to avoid the controversy from escalating and to keep the crew and other associates of the film out of the issue.
Chinmayi issues apology, cites ideological conflict
In response to the criticism, Chinmayi released an explanation and apology in a social media post. She claimed that she has known music composer Ghibran for almost 18 years and agreed to record the song after receiving an ordinary call from his office. She mentioned that Ghibran was not present at the recording and that she subsequently learned only afterwards about the ideologies of the film. Chinmayi also claimed that if she had been aware, she never would have sung the song, as it contradicted her views.
Mohan G asks critics not to target collaborators
Mohan G's 'Draupathi 2' stars Richard Rishi in the lead role and is set to release on the 29th of this month. Mohan G, responding to the critics' rage, advised that people should take their anger against him but not the singers, actors, and people who did their job on set. Mohan G said that the film represents his beliefs and that the crew did nothing wrong by practicing professionalism. The drama continues to surround 'Draupathi 2,' and it seems that Mohan G is not doing himself any favors.
