Talking to CT, the Superstar's friend Raj Bahadur, who was a driver in the bus in which Rajinikanth worked as a conductor before turning an actor, says, 'The building of the Model Primary School had become dilapidated and so it was decided to rebuild the structure. The government had sanctioned 80 lakh for this, but we learnt that the amount needed was much more. So, we decided to pitch in and help renovate the school in honour of our friend.'
He adds, 'At the function, we distributed uniforms, books and bags for students of the school. One of Rajini's fans, Sharavana, who runs a popular jewellery shop, has come forward to adopt 42 students from the school and bear their educational expenses till they pass out of Class X.'
Raj Bahadur also reveals that the Superstar hasn't been told of this activity yet. 'Since he is currently recovering from his illness, we haven't spoken to him on this yet,' he says and adds that they are planning to hold a function at the school once the renovation work is complete and invite Rajinikanth for the event.
