From Karikalan to Marma Manithan: Vikram’s 4 most ambitious yet dropped films

Versatile and intense, Chiyaan Vikram has always been known for taking on challenging and transformative roles in Tamil cinema. However, not all of his ambitious ventures have seen the light of day. Over the years, the actor has been associated with several high-profile projects that were either shelved midway or dropped before filming began. Here’s a look at four of Vikram’s most ambitious films that, unfortunately, never made it to the big screen.

2/5

Karikalan (2012)

Touted as a historical fantasy, Karikalan promised to be one of Vikram’s most visually stunning films. Directed initially by L.I. Kannan and later passed on to other filmmakers due to production troubles, the movie was set in ancient Tamil history with Vikram playing the title role of the Chola king. Despite an intriguing first-look poster and a star-studded cast including Zarine Khan and Radhika Apte, the film ran into financial issues and was eventually shelved.

3/5

Marma Manithan (2014)

Directed by Anand Shankar of Iru Mugan fame, Marma Manithan was meant to be a slick sci-fi thriller with Vikram in a dual role. The film was supposed to push genre boundaries in Tamil cinema, but due to script revisions and scheduling conflicts, the project was ultimately scrapped. Anand went on to collaborate with Vikram in Iru Mugan, salvaging part of the original concept.

4/5

Amaragaathi

One of the lesser-known shelved projects, Amaragaathi was to be helmed by director Bala, with whom Vikram previously delivered the critically acclaimed Pithamagan. The film reportedly dealt with reincarnation and was said to have a hauntingly poetic narrative. However, creative differences between Bala and the producers led to the project being dropped before it was officially launched.

5/5

100 Crore Film with director Shankar (Post-I)

After the monumental success of I (2015), there were strong reports of Vikram reuniting with director Shankar for another big-budget extravaganza. The untitled project was speculated to be a sci-fi drama, with pre-production already underway. Unfortunately, due to budget constraints and shifting priorities, the collaboration never materialized.
