UR Jameel

’s

Maha

, which was announced as Hansika-starrer, has been in the news from the time it went on floors as it is the actress’s 50th film. Later,

Silambarasan

TR came on board to play a crucial role in it. The film, which has been in the making for quite some time, has now courted fresh controversy. The producers of the film were planning to release the film on an

OTT

platform and the film’s director has sought

High Court

’s help to stop it.
A source informs us that nine days of shoot were pending, but the film’s producers and few others from the team went ahead with the post-production, including re-recording, dubbing and editing without Jameel’s knowledge. Quite miffed at the development, the director, we hear, tried to speak to a few people from the crew, but decided to approach the court after he was disappointed with their lackadaisical response.

The source tells us, “Jameel has filed a complaint against producer Mathiyalagan, assistant director Vijay and editor John Abraham for taking part in post-production activities without his knowledge. The court has asked them to respond on May 19 for the hearing. Jameel got to know about the OTT release plan, only through social media posts. The assistant director had worked only for 10 days on the film. Jameel then intimated to them that it is an incomplete film and the OTT platform replied that they won’t encourage such unfinished projects.”

The source also adds that the film’s major portions, which include scenes in an airport, are yet to be shot. “The director had planned to shoot those sequences in Puducherry airport. The portions had STR-Hansika’s combination scenes and sequences of other artistes. Meanwhile, Jameel received a message on his Facebook account from a lyricist thanking him for the opportunity to work in the film. Quite clueless about a new song’s composition and other works happening in the film, he filed a case in the High Court.”

A few months ago, a tweet from the director said that the crew had wrapped up shooting for the film and the makers posed for photos together. However, the source says that the tweet was posted upon the suggestion of the producer to initiate business for the project, and that two days of shoot had happened post the event.
