Jayam Ravi made his debut with 'Jayam' the Tamil remake of the eponymous Telugu film. The romantic drama earned him positive reviews. The success of the film encouraged him to add the name of the film with his name and thus became Jayam Ravi! Following that, he was flooded with offers and even appeared in several other remakes, which also did well in the box office.

Jayam Ravi and his brother director Raja have decided to put an end to doing remakes, and they teamed for a fresh script for the first time with 'Thani Oruvan'. The first-ever attempt of the duo transformed into a huge hit as the crime thriller won appreciation all over. 'Thani Oruvan' was then remade in a few languages, and both developed as popular stars down South.

After delivering the blockbuster 'Thani Oruvan', Jayam Ravi decided to attempt films in different genres. His zombie drama 'Miruthan' and space thriller 'Tik Tik Tik' received good responses, and he started to receive appreciation for his choice of films.

As a responsible citizen, Jayam Ravi decided to send some messages to the fans with his films and did a couple of social dramas. He fought for women and their safety in society with 'Adangamaru', which was directed by Karthik Thangavel. Later, he stood for farmers and explained the advantages of organic farming with Lakshman’s directorial 'Bhoomi'.

Despite being a popular star, Jayam Ravi didn’t receive an opportunity to be part of a big-ticket release, however, the jinx is now broken as the star has signed in to play a pivotal role in 'Ponniyin Selvan'. He is being a part of a historical drama for the first time and luckily the prestigious project is helmed by the celebrated filmmaker Mani Ratnam. Jayam Ravi will be seen as Arulmozhivarman in 'Ponniyin Selvan', and he is the main protagonist of the story. The talented actor is expected to reach more heights as the historical drama is set for a multi-language release.
