​Happy Birthday KS Ravikumar: 'Nattamai' to 'Dasavatharam', five blockbuster films of the director

Legendary director KS Ravikumar started his cinematic career with the 1990 Tamil film 'Puriyaadha Pudhir' starring Rahuman and Raghuvaran. The talented director has continued to rock with his films for more than 3 decades, and he has worked with almost every leading actor in the industry. Apart from direction, KS Ravikumar has also appeared in many films and impressed the audience with his valuable performances. As the entertaining director is celebrating his 62nd birthday, here is a look at five blockbuster directorials of KS Ravikumar from 'Nattamai' to 'Dasavatharam'.

​'Nattamai' - 1994

After delivering several hit films, KS Ravikumar joined hands with Sarathkumar for 'Nattamai', and the village drama went on to become a blockbuster one at the box office. The film won the Tamil State Award for Best Film as well as the Tamil State Award for Best Director of the year 1994. Sarathkumar played a dual role as brothers, while Khushbu and Meena played as the female leads. The film was also later remade in Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada languages.

​'Natpukkaga' - 1998

'Natpukkaga' is the story of the connection between two friends, and Vijayakumar and Sarathkumar played the two characters, after playing father and son in their earlier union 'Nattamai'. The film, which was directed by KS Ravikumar starred Sarathkumar, Simran, Vijayakumar, Sujatha, and Manorama in main roles, and it had music scored by Deva. The emotion mixed village drama became a blockbuster hit, and it was remade in Telugu as 'Sneham Kosam' which starred Chiranjeevi in the lead role.

​'Padayappa' - 1999

KS Ravikumar teamed up with Rajinikanth for the second time in 'Padayappa' after their super hit first film 'Muthu'. The action drama was released on the occasion of Tamil New Year, and it became the highest-grossing film in Tamil at the time. Rajinikanth's action mixed with style was well received, while Ramya Krishnan's performance with negative shades added more power to the film. The movie also won the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Film.

​'Panchathanthiram' - 2002

After the amazing films 'Avvai Shanmughi' and 'Thenali', KS Ravikumar and Kamal Haasan joined hands for the third time in 'Panchathanthiram'. The dialogues of the comedy-drama were written by Crazy Mohan, and it was one of the highly celebrated comedy films of all time. Kamal Haasan played the role of a pilot, while Simran played as the female lead. The film received positive reviews and turned out to be a highly grossing one at the box office.

​'Dasavathaaram' - 2008

The multi-talented actor Kamal Haasan played ten different roles in 'Dasavathaaram', breaking the record of Sivaji Ganesan who had earlier done nine roles in 'Navarathri'. The science-fiction disaster film is about a bio-weapon, which accidentally reaches India. The film lived up to the fans' expectations, and director KS Ravikumar recreated the 2006 disaster Tsunami at the climax of the film. Kamal Haasan showed amazing variations with his ten roles, and the actor’s hard work for the film was appreciated by all.
