Initially, when director Halitha Shameem approached Khatija for Minmini, she was occupied with her music album and couldn’t take on the project at the time. After finishing her album, Khatija received an offer to work on the British co-production Lioness, directed by Kajri Babbar, in July 2023, which she accepted. She was also considered for an international short film project but decided against pursuing it.

Amid wedding preparations and other commitments, Khatija planned to update Halitha on her availability. Just then, Halitha informed her that they were still searching for a music director and expressed interest in having Khatija join the team if she was available. After listening to one of Khatija's unreleased Indie English tracks, Halitha appreciated her sound and decided to bring her on board for Minmini.

Khatija also shared some insights about her father, AR Rahman, during the conversation. She revealed that despite his immense success, her father often downplays his knowledge of music and is always eager to learn new techniques. Khatija believes this humility and continuous quest for learning are crucial to his enduring success in the industry.
