I have had my fair share of relationships: Regina

Most of the films would have portrayed Regina Cassandra as an innocent and quiet girl, but looks like she isn���t anything like that in real life. ���I have always been rebellious and stubborn,��� she smiles. Recalling a funny incident, Regina says that she had once knocked the door of a mithai shop at midnight and lied to them saying that she was pregnant just to get her favourite dessert. ���It happened last year in Bangalore. It was around 12 in the night, and all of a sudden I was craving mishti doi. I found a place that was open, but since the shopkeeper was shutting down the shop by the time I had reached, he refused to give me. I lied to him saying that I was pregnant. I even told him that God will bless him if he helps a pregnant woman,��� she laughs, adding, ���My friends were shocked and worried if the shopkeeper might tell someone that Regina is pregnant. Fortunately, nothing like that happened. My mom has many such stories to tell about me. I have done so many crazy things in life and I will continue doing it!���

As much as she���s a fun girl, her role in Selvaraghavan���s Nenjam Marapathillai is something to watch out for. It will definitely create an impact says a confident Regina. ���The characterisation of Selva sir���s heroine is always unique and has something to say. In fact, every character will have equal importance, and it won���t be just a hero-glorifying film. Some people say that Selva sir���s films are dark and difficult to comprehend. I agree, but his filmmaking is unimaginable. It���s very tough to predict or understand how he writes or shoots a scene. I am pretty excited to watch a horror film through his eyes,��� says Regina.

Elaborating about her role, she says, ���I play a nanny, who resides in the house of a wealthy man. Though Mariam (her name in the film) looks simple, her characterisation is quite complex. Even in the first-look poster, there will be a close-up shot of a rosary around my neck. It simply means that she is a very orthodox girl and she���s a strong believer in God.��� So, what was it like to work with a director like Selvaraghavan? ���People in the industry have their own judgment on artistes. When I signed on this film, many advised me to back out as it���s not easy to work with Selvaraghavan and that he gets angry easily. But it was completely the opposite. He was nice to all of us, and played pranks on me even before the shoot.��� She recollects a funny incident, ���I was staying in ECR as a few major sequences of the film were shot there. Selva sir once called in the night and asked me where I was staying. I said that I was in a bungalow all alone, in ECR. He just asked, ���Are you sure that your bungalow is not haunted?��� That scared the hell out of me!���

Regina has also performed some stunts for the project. ���Yes, and I also had a few scenes on rope. It was quite hectic. But my co-star, Nandita, had a lot more stunt sequences than I did. She even has a high-octane fight sequence with SJ Suryah.��� She had a pleasant experience working with Suryah. ���He is someone who doesn���t have any ego. He doesn���t wait to smile or say a ���hi��� to someone. He doesn���t expect others to come and talk to him. He���s a brilliant actor and a good human being to work with.���

But for a very long time now, Regina has stuck to doing only one Tamil film a year. Prod her, and she says, ���I can do more films, but it will be just like proving that I am also there in this industry. I want my roles to stand out. I am happy being a part of films like Kedi Billa Khilladi Ranga and Rajathanthiram. At the end of the day, I want to do good films.��� Is that why she is she particular about not taking glamorous roles down south? ���It���s not intentional. I didn���t get any such roles. But you will get to see the other side of me in my upcoming film with Atharvaa. I���ve gone for a makeover and it���s a quite a modern one.���

Though she hasn���t taken up glamorous roles, Regina has always ensured she ups the glam quotient on the red carpet. Even her recent, bold look at IIFA stirred controversy. ���I wanted to wear something different and wanted to create my own path. Things may go wrong in fashion. International artistes like Jennifer Lopez wear risqu�� outfits all the time. I know that people will definitely comment on my outfit and will ask me to cover up! Even if I were to see someone wearing a revealing outfit, my first reaction would be, ���What the hell���. Everyone has their own opinion and I respect that. A few years ago, I was bit conscious about what I wear. But I let go, and now, feel confident about myself.��� And that rather unpleasant moment on stage the stage? ���I was walking carefully on the stage, but then, Navdeep stepped on my train by mistake, and I saw my dress tearing. But I am proud that managed to stay calm, finish my part and walk down to my stylist to have it stitched immediately.���

Regina, despite being in this industry for over 11 years now, has managed to stay away from link-up rumours. So, is she single, seeing someone, what? ���I am very much single. And if at all I do get married, it will definitely be a love marriage as my mom is not looking out for me. According to my mum, I will spoil the person whom I am getting married to. So, she wants me to remain single (laughs). But jokes apart, I don���t have any expectations on what my life partner should be like. I don���t dwell on the ���dream boy��� concept. I used to, but not anymore. So, yes, I have had my fair share of relationships. But right now, I am not seeing anyone.���
