Jana Nayagan Movie Case Verdict Update: Major setback for Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’, court sends the matter back to the single judge
Vijay’s final film, ‘Jana Nayagan’, before he completely transitions into politics, stepped into untested waters, after the CBFC refused a UA certification. The Madras High Court heard both the CBFC and the KVN Productions’ (producer of Vijay’s film) arguments on January 20, and reserved the order. Today, January 27, the Madras High Court will pronounce the order on appeals filed by the Central Bureau of Film Certification (CBFC) challenging a single judge's order directing it to grant ‘UA’certification for ‘Jana Nayagan’. Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava and Justice G Arul Murugan will pronounce the verdict that they had reserved on January 20. Vijay’s swansong, ‘Jana Nayagan’, was initially planned to release in theatres worldwide on January 9, ahead of the Pongal festivities. However, following the legal tussle, the makers announced a postponement. “It is with a heavy heart that we share this update with our valued stakeholders and audiences. The release of Jana Nayagan, eagerly awaited on January 9, has been postponed due to unavoidable circumstances beyond our control,” the producers said in a statement on January 7. The producers later approached the Supreme Court, challenging the Madras HC order that stalled the certification and release. However, the Supreme Court directed them to return to the Madras HC for clearance and refused to entertain the plea filed by the producers.
