After an impressive performance in

Marainthirunthu Parkum Marmam Enna

,

JD Chakravarthy

is all set for his next in Kollywood. The actor will be seen as a kingpin in debutant director Peter Allvin’s

Pattarai

.

Talking about the film, Allvin, who’s assisted

KV Anand

and director duo JD-Jerry earlier, says, “It’s about a bunch of college boys who fly like butterflies and sting like bees. The story revolves around four boys and one girl – all college students - who come from an underprivileged family ground. Their lives changes after they go to an NSS camp. So, what happens to them? We’ve shot the film in and around Chennai, on ECR and OMR, and also in north Madras, like Kasimedu and Royapuram.”

Why Pattarai? “I believe that anything good or evil is shaped in a workshop. Pattarai is the place where a lot of things transpire,” he says. Interestingly, Allvin is playing one of the students in the film. “Jagadeesh, Danabal, Desing and Dikshana are the other students,” he says, adding, “I’ve cast trained Koothu-p-pattarai artistes in the lead. Actually, this is not a hero-based film. Some movies are based on situations and backdrops, and this film will fall in that line. Story is the hero, and screenplay is the heroine here.”

So, what’s JD’s role in the film? “Uyirulla pengalai, unarvirukkum pengalai, vikkura aalu. In the end, he becomes unarvilla bommai. It’s a very meaty role and he has done an amazing job,” says Allvin, adding, “Senthil sir also has an important role in the film. There’s no comedy track for him; audience can see him in a new dimension.”
