Karthi's 'Vaa Vaathiyaar,' which has been idle for a long time, may release soon, after a long wait. The political comedy drama movie with direction by Nalan Kumarasamy had faced an uncertain fate at the end of last year due to some financial issues biting the production house. But now the movie has got its U/A censor certificate, and there seems to be much speculation regarding a release in theaters. There has not been an announcement regarding the release date, but the speculation is that the release could be very soon if it finds a partner in a void left by other releases, including the festive Pongal, queue it in.
Legal and financial hurdles derailed December release plans
Originally set for release on December 5, 'Vaa Vaathiyaar' was postponed to December 12 due to a legal issue.Just a day before its debut, the film found itself at the center of an order from the Madras High Court, compelling producer KE Gnanavel Raja to clear his Rs. 21.78 crore debt to investor K Arjunlal Sunderdas. “There may be complications regarding the movie release unless the amount is cleared leading to jeopardy of the movie release,” stated the Court. “It was also the intention for release of the movie on December 24th, the death anniversary of the former Chief Minister and actor MGR, which has now been scrapped leading to the delay.”

With the fate of Vijay's 'Jana Nayagan' still uncertain due to recent issues at the censor board, sources close to the Vaa Vaathiyaar team reveal that they are hoping to capitalise on the upcoming festive period. It is being speculated that the ppotential absence (or postponement) of a big Pongal release could free up significant screen space. This could pose a golden opportunity for Karthi's film to finally see the light of day.
