'Karuppu' box office collection day 6: Suriya’s fantasy actioner crosses Rs 175 crore worldwide
Suriya’s latest release 'Karuppu' is continuing its impressive box office run. The fantasy action drama, which features Trisha Krishnan in a key role, has received positive responses from audiences across major markets.
The movie has now moved well past the Rs 175 crore mark worldwide.
The film was screened in 6,194 shows across the country on Wednesday. Occupancy remained encouraging, especially during evening and night shows.
The film also added Rs 3 crore from overseas territories on Day 6. This has pushed its international gross to Rs 54 crore. As a result, the worldwide gross collection has climbed to Rs 175.96 crore.
The Tamil version remained the primary contributor on Day 6. It collected ₹8.55 crore net from 4,429 shows and registered around 35 percent occupancy.
The Telugu version earned Rs 1.75 crore net from 1,765 shows with an occupancy of 22 percent. Tamil Nadu alone generated Rs 8.35 crore gross. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana contributed Rs 1.80 crore, while Karnataka added Rs 82 lakhs. Kerala followed with Rs 80 lakhs.
ETimes review of the film states, "What makes Karuppu initially engaging is how firmly it roots itself in the legal proceedings surrounding a stolen jewels case involving Indrans and Anagha Maaya Ravi, who play a helpless father and daughter. The first half spends considerable time building investment in their desperation, vulnerability and pursuit of justice, which in turn gives the film both its emotional core and its most effective mass-movie hook: the idea of an ordinary man challenging a God forced to live and behave as a mortal. We have Baby Kannan (RJ Balaji, in effective mode), a crafty lawyer who has gamed the system for so long that even the judge, Rajanayagam (Natty Subramaniam), appears to dance to his tunes. Even the one truthful lawyer in the courtroom, Preethi (Trisha Krishnan), struggles to win cases despite being able to prove malpractice. So, when Baby Kannan boldly challenges Vettai Karuppu (Suriya, in full aura-farming mode), the deity who descends to help the father-daughter duo, to win the case without resorting to divine powers, Karuppu finds genuine dramatic tension because the conflict feels rooted in human stakes rather than divine invincibility."
