Since the last few days, there have been reports of Krishna (of Sillunu Oru Kadhal) replacing Narthan as the director of

Mufti

remake, starring Silambarasan TR and Gautham Karthik in the lead. Now, we have it from Gnanavelraja, who’s producing the film, that Krishna has indeed been roped in as the director and the film will go on floors soon. “We had to shuffle shoot dates because of the COVID-19 situation and Narthan had also committed to another film. We tried to come up with a convenient plan after permission was granted to resume film shoots, but it didn’t work out. So, we roped in Krishna to direct the remake,” says Gnanavelraja, adding, “We will start shooting as soon as Simbu completes the ongoing schedule of Maanadu.”

For the uninitiated, Gnanavelraja had announced last year that the Kannada film Mufti, starring Shivarajkumar and Srimurali, would be remade in Tamil, with Narthan, who had directed the Kannada version, helming this one, too. After completing a schedule in Bellary, the film ran into trouble, with Gnanavelraja reportedly filing a case against Silambarasan with the producers’ council over a loss incurred in that schedule. Soon after, reports of the movie being shelved started doing the rounds. Now, looks like things are back on track. So, will the team be reshooting the film from scratch? “It depends on the footage. We may retain some portions from the last schedule, but it’s too early to comment,” says Gnanavelraja, adding that they are in the process of finalising the female lead for the film now.
