Madras High Court orders an interim ban on the Income tax department's 1.5 crores fine over actor Vijay's 'Puli' salary

The Madras High Court has ordered an interim ban on the Income tax department's 1.5 crores fine over Vijay's 'Puli' salary. When actor Vijay filed his income tax return for the financial year 2016-17, he mentioned that he received Rs 35 crore 42 lakh 91 thousand 890 as income for that year. The Income Tax Department, which assessed that year, compared it with the documents seized during the raid conducted at actor Vijay's house in 2015. Accordingly, it was found that the income of Rs 15 crore received for the film 'Puli' was not accounted for.

On June 30, 2022, the Income Tax Department issued an order imposing a penalty of Rs 1.50 crores for concealment of income. Thalapathy Vijay then filed a petition against this order in the Madras High Court and claimed in his petition that if it was to impose a penalty, the order should have been issued in 2019 itself. Therefore, he had requested in the petition to cancel this order issued belatedly.

The judge, who heard the case, has imposed an interim ban on the order issued by the Income Tax Department imposing a fine of Rs 1.50 crore on actor Vijay. Further, the judge ordered the Income Tax Department to respond to the petition and adjourned the hearing to September 16th.

On the work front, Vijay is filming for 'Varisu' in Hyderabad, and the film is at the final stage of production.
