Mari Selvaraja's upcoming political drama 'Maamannan' is set to release in theatres on June 29. The film stars Udayanidhi Stalin in the lead role. A couple of days back, a petition was filed at the Madras High Court asking to stay the release of the film. However, the court has now reportedly refused to stall release. The movie will be out in theatres as per the said date.
According to reports, the petition was filed by movie producer Ramasaravanan on the note that Udayanidhi Stalin who had signed up for the movie 'Angel' did not shoot for the film as promised. The petitioner said that the actor promised to shoot and dub for the film before the release of his film 'Maamannan'. The Madras High Court, replying to the petition said that it cannot delay the release of the film 'Maamannan' without listening to both sides of story. The court has also reportedly directed the senior counsel representing Udayanidhi Stalin un the case to file a counter affidavit by June 28.
As 'Maamannan' will mark the end of film career of Udayanidhi as he has now taken the role of a state minister, 'Angel' film will be shelved after this. The petition reportedly read, asking for the Madras High Court to delay the release of 'Maamannan' to a later date, so Udayanidhi Stalin can complete his work for 'Angel'. Reportedly, the producer had also asked for Rs 25 crore as a damage fee. Udayanidhi Stalin was said to shoot for 'Angel' in 2018, but the movie dates got postponed and the film delayed its shooting due to the COVID pandemic.
Directed by Mari Selvaraj, 'Maamannan' stars Udayanidhi Stalin, Keerthy Sursh, Fahadh Faasil, and Vadivelu in lead roles. The music for the movie is composed by AR Rahman.
