Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ is all scheduled to release in theatres on September 30. With just 12 more days left for the film’s release, the anticipation for the historic epic drama film is high and movie audiences and fans of the novel are eagerly waiting for the release of the film.

In a press conference held in Chennai on September 17, director Mani Ratnam spoke about the plan for the sequel which will be part 2 of the film. Speaking to the media, the director reportedly stated that the second part of the movie will be released within the next 9 months.

It was earlier reported that the movie makers had planned for part 2 of the movie as they were not able to cover the entire novel as one film. With the movie makers now involved in full swing with the promotion, the expectation for the second part of the film is also piquing the interests of the audience.

‘Ponniyin Selvan 1’ is a fictional historic drama that focuses on the Chola dynasty. The movie stars Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha and Aishwarya Raai in the lead roles. Sarathkumar, Parthiban, Prakash Raj, Prabhu, Nasser, Kishore, Rahman, Jayaram, Vikram Prabhu, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Sobhita Dhulipala have all played supporting and important roles in the film. The music for the movie is composed by AR Rahman.

The film will be released in five different languages – Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi, and Kannada. The film also marks Mani Ratnam’s first film after the pandemic. He last directed ‘Chekka Chivantha Vaanam’ in 2018.
