On this Galentine’s Day, Cobra actress Meenakshi Govindarajan talks to us about the value she places on her female friends, the distinction between having a male and female buddy, and her girl gang. “I’m a person who prefers to be with my girl friends. A cafe in Vadapalani is the usual hangout spot of our girl gang. Chennai is a beautiful place where we get to see people from all walks of my life. One of my best friends is a Malayali, and the other person is Gujarati,” says the actress. Talking about her best friends, she says, “They know everything about me, and they are the people I trust in every situation. While I share things with my parents, the feeling that I get with my friends is one of sisterhood.”
‘We usually don’t plan anything for Galentine’s Day, but we often end up getting together’On Galentine’s Day, we generally make fun of each other by sending memes like, ‘If you reroute your flowers on the 14th, you’ll get your own flowers.’ We don’t particularly plan anything special for the day, but we often end up meeting each other or let things happen on their own. The major difference between Valentine’s Day and Galentine’s Day is that unlike couples, we don’t show off or behave in a way that makes one cringe.
‘I only get work-related calls from men’I’ve never had a male friend in my life. I only have a ‘hi-bye’ relationship with men. I only get work-related calls from men. It’s not as if I don’t want men as my friends. I do have friends who are men, but I don’t have any male best friends.
‘This is not the right time to get into a relationship’I feel this is not the right time to get into a relationship for me, because I really want to work and not get distracted. That said, I do not mean that I’ll get distracted if I have a man in my life. I believe that both men and women can be equally supportive in their relationships.
