Meet Ashok and Anand, two best friends who are polar opposites
We’ve heard that opposites attract when it comes to relationships, but
The director tells us, “This is a friendship-based script, and revolves around two childhood friends. Ashok (played by Jiiva) and Anand (played by Arulnithi) are polar opposites; they just can’t be together at any given time because their ideologies differ. One guy has a carefree attitude, and a great sense of humour. The other person is emotional and picks up fights with people if he feels he is right. Usually, if we look at close friends, they would either have studied in the same school or belong to the same area, or at least would have common interests. But in their case, there is nothing in common; their political orientation, way of approach towards life, are quite different from each other. But what keeps them together? That’s what the film will explore.”
Interestingly, Jiiva and Arulnithi will be seen as kabaddi players in the film. “Kabaddi is their hobby; one person plays defence, and another plays offence. Even here, they are different, and we’ve used this to showcase their characterisation,” says Rajasekar, and adds, “The film is set against the backdrop of Karaikudi, a place where playing kabaddi is part of lifestyle. We got lucky with the title as well, because Kalathil Santhipom also relates to sport. But I’ll reiterate, the script is not based on kabaddi.”
The film, also starring Manjima Mohan and
Rajasekar
tells us that this phrase stands true for the two heroes in his film,Kalathil Santhipom
