Nakkhul-Sunaina team up again for 'Eriyum Kannadi'

Ten years after they teamed up for the hit Kadhalil Vizhunthen, Nakkhul and

Sunaina

are coming together again, for a mature romantic film, titled

Eriyum Kannadi

, which will be directed by Sachin Dev, who has a background in advertising.

“I am basically a sound engineer, and have worked in one of AR Rahman’s studios during 2003-05. Later, I started an advertising company and made international campaign videos, including one for the United Nations, which starred Rahman and Sachin Tendulkar,” begins Sachin, who says that the film will be a complete contrast to the two films that Nakkhul and Sunaina have done together so far.

Talking about the film, he says, “It is an emotional romantic drama. There is no action scene; and they won’t even be dancing. Nakkhul’s role will be unique. He plays an art restorer, a field where they are very few professionals in India.”

The director says that he wanted to use the magic of the stars’ chemistry, which the audience is already familiar with because of the previous two films. “The teens who were fans of Naaka Mukka are now in the 20-25 age group, and they are the ones who made a film like Pyaar Prema Kaadhal a hit. And this will appeal to them. And when people see that Yuvan Shankar Raja is composing the music and Vairamuthu is writing the lyrics, they expect the songs to be poetic, and not like Naaka Mukka,” he explains.

The team has also shot a teaser with the stars, which they will release before the film goes on floors — in less than two months.

Sachin says he has roped in Manisha Koirala for a crucial role in the film. “She plays the mother of Malayalam actress Aparna Gopinath, who will be making her Tamil debut with this film. They have similar facial features and that is why I wanted Manisha to play this role. Suresh Menon is paired with Manisha’s character,” says Sachin, and adds Revathy will be seen in the character of Sunaina’s mom.
