Actor Nassar believes that production sets have undergone a significant transformation, becoming a more secure environment for women. According to him, filmmakers have taken concrete steps to establish a culture of respect and professionalism by implementing a comprehensive code of conduct and clear guidelines for behavior. This shift in mindset is attributed to the landmark Justice Hema Committee report, which shed light on disturbing instances of harassment and exploitation faced by women in the Malayalam film industry, prompting a much-needed overhaul of the industry's working dynamics.

While attending a recent award function, Nassar told The Indian Express about the significant changes in the film industry since the 1980s. He acknowledged that during his early years, there was a heavy focus on filmmaking with minimal safety measures, especially during stunts and dance sequences. However, today safety protocols have become mandatory, both physically and psychologically. He also highlighted the importance of new rules and codes of conduct, particularly regarding respectful behavior towards women, ensuring a safer environment for everyone in the industry. “There are a lot of rules and codes of conduct in terms of how to behave with women. Now, everybody is safe,” he mentioned.

The Kerala government recently released the Justice Hema Committee report, four-and-a-half years after its submission. The 233-page document exposed widespread discrimination and exploitation of women in the Malayalam film industry. Its release sparked a major outcry, leading to several individuals being publicly named.

Nassar was also asked about being one of the first actors to work in pan-Indian cinema before it became a trend. He acknowledged that different Indian film industries have varied approaches to filmmaking, without labeling any as better or worse, noting that each operates uniquely.
