Kamal Haasan paid his last respects to the noted film producer-director
Muktha Srinivasan
, who passed away on Tuesday. He was 88.
Addressing the media, Kamal
Haasan
said, “I’ve known Muktha Srinivasan for a very long time. He was one of the pioneers of Tamil cinema. Not many know this, but he was an excellent writer. In fact, it was Muktha Srinivasan who gave me the opportunity to sing in one of my films. I’m proud that he produced ‘
Nayagan
’. I’m sure even he was proud of the film.”
In a career spanning more than six decades, Muktha Srinivasan has worked with several top celebrities including Sivaji Ganesan, Gemini Ganesan, J Jayalalithaa, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan.
Mutha Srinivasan’s home production Muktha Films has bankrolled several successful films. In fact, the production house is famously known for producing the Kamal Haasan-starrer ‘Nayagan’, which was directed by Mani Ratnam. Upon its release in 1987, ‘Nayagan’ went on to become one of the landmark films in the history of Tamil cinema and won multiple national awards, including Best Actor for Kamal Haasan.
It must be noted that Kamal Haasan had a minor fallout with Muktha
Srinivasan, after which the latter sent a legal notice, citing that he was hurt by Haasan’s remarks in a news article.
Muktha Srinivasan has directed both Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan in successful films like ‘Polladhavan’ and ‘Shimla Special’ respectively.
