The magnum opus of Mani Ratnam, 'Ponniyin Selvan 1' was released in theatres on September 30, 2022. The movie minted more than Rs 500 crore worldwide. The movie was critically acclaimed and now the new reports state that the film which was nominated for six awards did not win any at the 16th Asian Film Awards.
According to media reports, 'Ponniyin Selvan' was nominated for the Best Movie, Best Music Director - AR Rahman, Best Production Design - Thota Tharani, Best Editor - Sreekar Prasad, Best Cinematographer - Ravi Varman, Best Costume Designer - Eka Lakhani.
The film's crew - producer Siva Ananth, cinematographer Ravi Varman, editor Sreekar Prasad and costume designer Eka Lakhani attended the Awards festival in Hong Kong. The film featured Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Aishwarya Rai, Sobhitha Dhulipala, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sarathkumar, Parthiban, Jayaram among others in important roles.
The film's sequel 'Ponniyin Selvan 2' is all set to release in theatres on April 28, 2023. The makers, a couple of days back announced that the first single from the movie will soon be out.
