Noted actor Ponvannan, who resigned from the post of South Indian Artistes' Association vice-president days ago today withdrew it, asserting that he would work in cohesion with the team. The key office bearer tendered his resignation in a letter dated December four, opposing

general secretary Vishal Krishna's bid to contest the December 21 RK Nagar bypoll. Though Vishal's bid to fight the bypoll was unsuccessful as his papers were rejected by the Returning Officer, it trigerred a controversy in the actors' body.

Meanwhile, Ponvannan's resignation was not accepted by SIAA chief M Nasser, who held consultations with other office-bearers to resolve the issue. Ponvannan, who has done a variety of roles in Tamil cinema, told reporters here that Vishal expessed regret for having decided to contest the bypoll without consulting the actors' body's team of executives.

He explained that the reason for opposing Vishal's bid to enter politics was based on the collective view that the apolitical nature of the SIAA should be maintained. The vice-president had stressed the same point in the December 4 letter. Vishal's decision to fight the poll contradicted their earlier decision to remain "without politics," Ponvannan had said.

The row following his resignation offer was resolved with SIAA chief and other senior actors' intervention.
