Rajinikanth-starrer 'Coolie' is all set to hit theatres this month. Ahead of its release, the makers are promoting the film extensively. And during an event, the superstar went on to compare the film's director, Lokesh Kanagaraj, with filmmaker S S Rajamouli. Here's what happened.

During a pre-release event in Hyderabad, Rajinikanth compared his film's director with the Telugu filmmaker. A video message from the superstar was played at the event. In the clip, Rajinikant said, "Lokesh Kanagaraj is like Rajamouli here. Just like all Rajamouli films are a success, even Lokesh’s films are also all hit films."
After the pre-release event, a grand trailer launch was hosted in Chennai.

While talking of Nagarjuna's character in the movie, Rajinikanth shared that he wanted to play the Telugu star's role as Simon. He called it the "biggest attraction" of the movie.
Rajinikanth said, "I like playing villain roles. Simon is very stylised. I was shocked when Nagarjuna agreed." He went on to reveal that Nagarjuna never thought of the money, as he is not "that kind of person". The 'Jailer' actor added, "Maybe he thought, ‘I'm always playing the good guy; let's try a change this time.'"

After the trailer was dropped online, netizens speculated that the movie might include time travel and sci-fi elements as well. Clarifying the same, filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj said, "Everyone is calling it a sci-fi film and a time travel film. People are going to be surprised when they see what the film is really about."
Apart from Rajinikanth and Nagarjuna Akkineni, the film also stars Pooja Hegde, Shruti Haasan, Sathyaraj, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, and Aamir Khan. The film will be out in theatres on August 14, and it will clash with Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR's 'War 2'.
