Rajinikanth's 'Padayappa' to re-release in theatres soon; Will it break Vijay's 'Ghilli' re-release records?

Rajinikanth is one of the most powerful actors in Indian cinema, and his average film even can become a box office blockbuster. Rajinikanth has been delivering regular films to entertain films, and he has an interesting lineup. As the latest buzz doing rounds on social media, Rajinikanth is set to join the re-release trend. The re-release of classic Tamil hits in theatres has become the Tamil cinema's latest trend, and we have seen several re-releases in the last two months. Rajinikanth's 'Padayappa' is to join the list, and the makers are in the process of giving the film a grand re-release. 'Padayappa' co-producer PL Thenappan met Rajinikanth recently at the shooting of 'Vettaiyan' and shared his plans of re-releasing the classic film with Rajinikanth.

Rajinikanth has also reportedly signaled a green for 'Padayappa' re-release and the official announcement of the same is expected to be made soon. But we have to wait to see whether 'Padayappa' will surpass Vijay's 'Ghilli' re-release box office numbers or not. Vijay's 'Ghilli', which had a successful re-release by running over 25 days in theatres, has reportedly grossed close to Rs 35 crore during the re-release, and the film is now the highest-grossing Indian film among re-releases.

Directed by KS Ravikumar, 'Padayappa' features Rajinikanth, Soundarya, and Ramya Krishnan in the lead roles, while Sivaji Ganesan, Nassar, Lakshmi, Senthil, and Ramesh Khanna among others played supporting roles. AR Rahman scored the music, and the 1999 Tamil film earned almost Rs 50 crore during its earlier release.
