Santhosh Sivan made his debut in the film industry as a cinematographer with the Mollywood film industry in 1986. He soon worked with the Hindi and Tamil film industries and made a name for himself. He then started his career as a director and continued to play a dual role in the film industry. His films have won the National Award for Best Feature as well.

Now, Santhosh Sivan has become the first Indian to be conferred with Cannes' Pierre Angénieux tribute. The award, named after the pioneer of modern zoom lenses, Pierre Angenieux, will be tributed to Santhosh Sivan in the 77th Cannes film festival which is scheduled to happen on May 24, 2024.

Santhosh Sivan, speaking to the New Indian Express said that he is delighted by the international recognition that his work has received. With the award, Santhosh Sivan joins the list of world renowned cinematographers.

On the work front, Santhosh is currently directing the films 'Kaliyugam' in Malayalam and 'Moha' in English. He is also the cinematographer of Sunny Deol's film 'Lahore 47'.
