"Presenting #BURQA! - We are so proud to announce our representation of Director @sarjun_km's latest film, BURQA, starring @KalaiActor & @mirnaaofficial, produced by @MallSkls & @madras_stories. This poignant drama will be having its WORLD PREMIERE at the 2022 @nyindianff!" tweeted Viewfinder Film Productions, a marketing and production company that's handling the film.

Speaking to us, Sarjun says, "Our film is an official selection at NYIFF and has been nominated under three categories — Best Film, Best Actor and Best Actress. The fest takes place from May 7-13 this year, and the film will be screened virtually for audiences. Since we are planning to screen the film at other film fests as well, this will only be a US premiere and audiences in the US can only watch the film."

Burqa is said to be a love story revolving around just two characters, mainly. "Two strangers from completely different backgrounds meet in an unusual situation, and what happens during the course of the day when they have to be with each other forms the plot," Sarjun had told us in an earlier interview.

The film, which is set against an Islamic backdrop, will also talk about a societal issue. The cinematography of the film is Balamurugan, while the music has been scored by Sivatmikha, who had worked on Vetri Maaran's short in Paava Kathaigal.

Sarjun, who came into limelight with his controversial short film Lakshmi, has directed feature films like

Echarikkai

: Ithu Manithargal Nadamaadum Idam, starring Sathyaraj, and Nayanthara's horror drama Airaa. He had also directed one of the shorts (Thunindha Pinn) in the OTT anthology Navarasa, which was put together by Mani Ratnam and ad man-turned-filmmaker Jayendra.
