Sasikumar: Happy to remake K Bhagyaraj sir’s Mundhanai Mudichu

holds a special place. The film, which starred him and Oorvasi in the lead, released on this date in 1983. Even as the industry celebrates #37YearsOfMundhanaiMudichu today, Bhagyaraj is busy working on the remake of the film, with

Sasikumar

playing the lead. He will be taking care of the story, screenplay and dialogue for the remake.

Taking to his social media page, Sasikumar wrote, “#37YearsofMundhanaiMudichu. Happy to remake Mundhanai Mudichu a heart winning movie by K. Bhagyaraj sir and feel proud to reprise the role played by the master of screenplay (sic).”

A source says, “In May, a picture of Bhagyaraj and Sasikumar having a meeting surfaced, and JSB Sathish announced on Twitter that the two are joining hands for the remake of the ‘epic blockbuster’ Munthanai Mudichu, to be produced by him. Now, Sasikumar has also conveyed how happy he is to be part of the film.”

Released on July 22, 1983, the film focuses on a girl who forces the village teacher to marry her after falsely accusing him of molesting her. The story goes on to show how she goes to extremes to win his love. The source adds, “It was Oorvasi’s debut film in Tamil, and ran for over 25 weeks in theatre. After a scene that shows Oorvasi’s character cooking an entire meal using

to increase the sexual drive of the character played by Bhagyaraj, the sales of the vegetable apparently increased in the state! The film was remade in Telugu (Moodu Mullu), Hindi (Masterji) and Kannada (Halli Meshtru). It also had a sequel, Mappillai Vinayagar, which is yet to hit screens.”
