News 18 reports stated that the director wanted to make a women-centric film as the Nirbhaya incident shook the entire country, and as he was lacking a good story at that time, he chose to remake the Bollywood film. He said that he believed that if an actress like Nayanthara, who was at her peak at that time, acted in the film, it would receive good traction. He later admitted that the film was a failure at the box office and said that he should have made the film on a whim.

The director also said that it was a wrong choice to cast Nayanthara when the story wouldn't have resonated with the South African audience. On the work front now, Sekhar Kammula is currently directing the film 'Kubera' starring Dhanush, Nagarjuna, and Rashmika Mandanna in lead roles. Meanwhile, the actress has the films 'Test' and 'Manangatti Since 1960' awaiting their release. She is also shooting for 'Toxic' alongside Yash, which is directed by Geetu Mohandas. Nayanthara is also making a comeback in Malayalam alongside Nivin Pauly for a new film.
