Shruti Haasan reveals she felt embarrassed when her mother Sarika sent 'chikki' balls as birthday treats at school: 'We thought your father was an actor!'

Actress Shruti Haasan, the daughter of Kamal Haasan and Sarika, recently shared insights about her personal life and the values her parents instilled in her during her upbringing. The actress revealed that her mother, Sarika, was "extra strict" to ensure her daughter never got spoilt, despite growing up in a "big home with many cars."


In an interview with Pinkvilla, Shruti Haasan shared that her mother, actress Sarika, maintained a disciplined environment during her childhood. She mentioned there was no concept of pocket money, as she had to earn everything herself. "Mummy always feared that with such a big house and so many cars, the kids would get spoilt. So she was extra strict," Shruti stated.



During the same conversation, Shruti recounted a light-hearted memory from her school days. She spoke about how her mother sent chikki balls as birthday treats for her classmates, contrasting with the fancy chocolates her peers brought. "I used to be so embarrassed. I would hear at school, 'We thought your father was an actor! And you brought this sweet?'" the 'Salaar' actress shared with humour. Despite these moments, Shruti appreciated her mother’s grounded and practical nature.

She also firmly denied leveraging her father Kamal Haasan’s influence or privilege to secure work in the film industry. The actress humorously remarked that the only privilege her surname afforded her was the occasional skipping of airport queues. Highlighting her independence, Shruti revealed that since she began earning at 21, she has neither relied on her parents for financial support nor sought favours. Addressing misconceptions about her possessions, she clarified that everything she owns, including her house and car, was the result of her own efforts, with her parents’ blessings and her dedication to her career.

The '3' actress also opened up about the emotional impact of her parents’ divorce, describing it as heartbreaking.

On the professional front, Shruti is gearing up for the release of 'Coolie' by Lokesh Kanagaraj, co-starring Rajinikanth. The movie is touted to be an action thriller and also stars Sathyaraj, Soubin Shahir, Nagarjuna, Upendra, and many others in pivotal roles.
