The song
Othaiyadi Pathayila
from
Kanaa
is the latest Tamil song to join the elite 100M views club on YouTube. Interestingly,
Vaayadi Petha Pulla
, another song from the movie, had clocked 100M views much earlier. The film has become the first in Kollywood to have two of its songs clocking over 100M views. Quite elated about the achievement, music director
Dhibu
Ninan Thomas says the feat was completely unexpected.
He opens up, “I’m overwhelmed with congratulatory messages I have been receiving on social media.
Sivakarthikeyan had texted me saying that there is a surprise for me, after which I came across the tweet he posted on Twitter about the album’s rare feat. Now, the icing on the cake is the announcement from Sony Entertainment that the album, as a whole, has clocked over 500M views. This is huge and we are all so proud of our effort. These achievements are unbelievably massive as we hardly expected any of these. Moreover, Kanaa was a small film. Be it Siva or Arunraja or others in our team, our plan was to come up with a sincere work. I’m happy that our hard work has paid off in different ways.”
He adds, “It’s good to see that there are fans for other three songs in the album, too. I often get messages from Siva fans and music buffs about their liking for the song, Savaal. They say it is a motivational song. We all had great mutual trust among each other, and I would say it is that factor which made us successful. Vaayadi Petha Pulla was an instant chartbuster while the reception for Othaiyadi Pathayila was a little slow. It was after the film’s release that the latter picked up momentum on YouTube.”
