Sonu Nigam conferred with Padma Shri: Popular Tamil songs of the singer

Popular playback singer Sonu Nigam has been conferred with the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award of the country, for his distinguished contribution to the field of Art. The singer, who has sung a slew of hit numbers in Hindi like Sandese Aate Hain (Border), Panchi Nadiya (Refugee), Yeh Dil Deewana (Pardes), Sooraj Hua Madhham (Kabhi Khushi Kabhu Gham), has tested waters in Tamil as well and the songs have gone on to become hits. Here a few Tamil songs of the singer.

Sonu Nigam was roped in by AR Rahman to sing the peppy number Vaaraayo Thozhi in Shankar’s Jeans. The song, which featured veteran actress Lakshmi, Prashanth, Aishwarya Rai and Raju Sundaram, was sung by Sonu Nigam, Harini, Sangeetha and Shahul Hameed. The song was a chartbuster and Sonu was lauded for his flawless rendition of the lyrics. Not only that, his voice suited the lead actor Prashanth as well. Sonu also went on to sing the Hindi and Telugu versions of the song.

Sonu once again belted a beautiful number for Prashanth in Parthen Rasithen. Poove Punnagai Kaatu was a duet along with Vasundhara Das and was composed Bharathwaj, who was one of the leading composers of the time. The lyrics for the song was by Vairamuthu. The film had Prashanth, Simran and Laila in the lead and was directed by Saran.

While Sonu took the peppy route in Vaarayo Thozhi, he was went the melodious way in Vizhiyil Un Vizhiyil from Kireedam (which was a remake of the Malayalam film of the same name). He sang the duet along with Shwetha Mohan. Music for the film was composed by GV Prakash. Kireedam starred Ajith and Trisha in the lead. Even today, the song is well liked by music lovers.

This melody from Karthi and Pranitha’s Saguni was sung by Sonu Nigam, Saindhavi and GV Prakash Kumar. Lyrics for the song were by Na Muthukumar and music was by GV Prakash Kumar. The song which emerged as a chartbuster, was reused from the hit song Chalisuva Cheluve, which was incidentally also sung by Sonu Nigam and Saindhavi, from the Kannada film Ullasa Utsaha. The Kannada version, too, had music by GV Prakash Kumar.
