Domin D’Silva, who made the Malayalam films Pyppin Chuvattile Pranayam, starring Neeraj Madhav and Reba Monica John, and the Joju George-Prithviraj supernatural thriller Star, is making his debut in Tamil with Regina, a revenge thriller, which has Sunainaa playing the lead role. The film, which marks the actress’ first female-centric project, will have Ananth Nag, who has acted in films like Neram and July Kaatril, as her romantic interest.

Domin tells us, “I have been wanting to do a film in Tamil and this subject gave me the opportunity to enter Kollywood. The story revolves around an ordinary housewife who does extraordinary things. It will be very new-age, as the character goes against the system, which includes the society, the judiciary and the police, during her quest.”

The director admits that while he isn’t fluent in Tamil, he knows the language, having watched Tamil films from a very young age. He reveals that he wrote the dialogues in Malayalam, and then got Madhu Vasu, his associate director, to translate them in Tamil, with dialogue supervisor Yogini overseeing the process.

While they have shot the film in Tamil, the team is also planning to release the film in Hindi, Malayalam, and Telugu.
On casting Sunainaa, he says, “She is an actress who has been impressive in a range of characters, but has been underutilised. So, I felt she would be perfect for this role.”

Producer Sathish Nair informs that the film, the shoot of which was completed in under 40-45 days, is currently in the post-production stage. “We have shot the film majorly in Pollachi and Udumalpet and also in a few places in Kerala, like Varkala.”
Sathish, who has also composed the music, adds, “The film has five songs and we have got big names like Sid Sriram and Chinmayi to sing these numbers.”
