Right from his very first film, actor
Suriya and director
KV Anand
shared a great rapport. The late filmmaker, who passed away today due to
COVID-19
complications, was the cinematographer of the actor's debut film,
Nerukku Ner
(1997).
And after turning director,
Anand worked with Suriya in three films —
Ayan
(2009), Maattraan (2014) and
Kaappaan
(2019).
Suriya has now paid tributes to the ace filmmaker on his social media page.
The actor writes, "KV Anand sir.. Your death strikes us hard to remind us that we are in a pandemic. The fact that you are no more shocks and pains my heart. In the sorrow in your unacceptable death, unforgettable memories arise like waves.
It is in the photographs that you took did the miracle of Saravanan turning into Suritya happen. I look in awe at the work you put in for two hours to ensure that you capture a new face in the right angle. I felt like I was in a battlefield in those two hours at the
Madras Talkies
office.
The Russian angle photograph that you took of me for Nerukku Ner was the main reason for director Vasanth and producer Mani Ratnam placing their trust in me. You also made me appear 10,ooo times bigger than the photograph on the silver screen.
The first light that shone on me came from your camera. It was through the my future became bright. I cannot forget your part and guidance in my journey in the film industry. The words you shared with love and care on what all I should change to grow continue to guide me.
As a director, the incredible work that you put in for Ayan invigorated me while I was waiting for a massive success. I look back on how the success of Ayan turned me into everyone's favourite star.
It is an anomaly of nature that you were part of my first film and I was part of your final film. You will always live in our memories, sir. Heartfelt thanks and tribute."
