Late last year, the government had announced that students of classes 5 and 8 will have to take public examinations. Soon after, several parents, teachers and activists had voiced their concern and also criticized the move, stating this could pressure the kids and drive them to take extreme steps. And now, Minister for School Education, KA Sengottaiyan, has said that the government has withdrawn its decision to conduct public exams for these classes.

Roughly translated, it reads, “It’s difficult to get children who’ve stopped education mid-way back into the classroom, and Agaram, which has been involved in educational causes, knows this better.
