Tamannaah Bhatia on women in cinema; says ambitious women unsettle insecure men, 'Glamour takes center stage'
Remember the 'Paiyaa' girl who charmed the audiences back in 2010? Tamannaah Bhatia has been in the film industry for nearly two decades. She has entered the hearts of audiences, all thanks to her stunning roles in movies across Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi cinema.
In a recent interview with News18, the actress spoke about the challenges female actors continue to face in the industry. She admitted that while women have made progress, their opinions are still often not considered.
“Ours is a visual medium, and glamour takes center stage. People are fine with you being seen but not necessarily heard,” she observed. According to her, men in powerful positions rarely welcome a female actor’s input. She also says that ambitious women often end up intimidating those who are insecure.
Filmmaking as a risky gamble
Despite these concerns, Tamannaah, who played the lead in the recently released 'Odela 2', said she doesn’t blame filmmakers for being hesitant about female-led commercial projects. She explained that cinema is an expensive art form, and producers are constantly taking risks.
Tamannaah's call for a stronger box office presence
For Tamannaah, the biggest game-changer will be female-led films proving their worth at the box office. She pointed out that complex and layered roles for women are far more common now than in the past, which is a positive shift.
However, Tamannaah stressed that the real transformation will only come when these films draw big numbers. “My quest as an actor is to lead more projects that can deliver commercially. That’s the only way things can truly change,” she said.
On the other hand, Tamannaah Bhatia's recent outing is the TV series 'Do You Wanna Partner', which is getting decent reviews. Her previous movie venture was the Ajay Devgn starrer 'Raid 2,' where she appeared as a dancer in Nasha song. Her Telugu film 'Odela 2' failed to impress the audiences and flopped at the box office.
