Actor Thalaivasal Vijay is quite kicked to be part of another

biopic

. He will be seen as

Variyankunnathu Kunjahammed Haji

in director Ali Akbar’s Malayalam film, 1921 Puzha Muthal Puzha Vare. Haji is considered one of the leaders of the

Malabar rebellion

that took place in 1921 and 1922 in the

Malabar

region of Kerala.

“This is my second biopic in Malayalam,” says Vijay, adding, “I did Yugapurushan, which was based on social reformer Sree Narayana Guru. It’s always exciting to play real-life characters on screen. I read some archives to prepare for my role (as Haji) and had to work on the Mappila dialect as well. Award-winning makeup artiste Pattanam Rasheed has given me a completely new look in this movie.”

The team has been shooting for the film in the deep forests of Wayanad region. He says, “Our longest schedule is in Wayanad. It has been tough shooting in the forest as we are not allowed to take our caravans. We had to travel long distances for every basic need. But what impressed me the most was that the houses in the region had good toilet facilities and even wi-fi.”

Director Aashiq Abu and Prithviraj, too, had announced a movie titled Variamkunnan based on the life of Haji, which triggered controversy among certain political outfits. Interestingly, veteran director IV Sasi had come out with 1921, a film based on the same event in 1988. It had an ensemble cast, including Mamootty, Madhu, TG Ravi, Suresh Gopi, Urvashi and Seema.
