There’s a lot happening in

Umapathy

’s life. The actor, who was last seen in Thirumanam, is simultaneously shooting for three films. While Mahesh’s Devadas and Manika Vidya’s

Thanne Vandi

are nearing completion, he’s just begun work on a sports-based film that deals with mixed martial arts (MMA).

“We’ve completed the first schedule of the sports-based film; I’ve been training in MMA while shooting. Work on Devadas is also on in full swing,” he informs us.

About his role in Thanne Vande, Umapathy says, “When I heard the script first, I liked how three storylines — that of Samskruthy, Vidyullekha and Bala Saravanan and mine — meet at one point. I play this guy who drives thanne vandi in the morning, and is busy with thanne (alcohol) in the nights. One critical mistake that he makes lands the heroine in trouble. The role is also three dimensional — in the sense, my character looks innocent, but he is not all that good. Whatever he does, people think it’s a noble gesture, but it creates trouble for everyone. We’ve shot in Madurai and Chennai.”

Ask him if he’s worried about being compared to his father, Thambi Ramiah, and he says, “This kind of comparison is there in all fields and not limited to just the film industry. But I find that these reviews and critiquing useful because it helps me gain perception.”
